Outdoor toys gift welcomed

A gift from Asda’s Fosse Park store in Leicester has provided children at Adullam Homes’ Bethany Court in the city with some very welcome outdoor play equipment.

The store donated to the project a couple of years ago and Community Champion Debbie Kenney said Bethany came up during recent discussions about recipients for community budget funding.

She contacted Bethany Court and residents were asked what they would like to spend the money on. They chose a selection of outdoor toys.

Adullam Homes’ Bethany Court consists of 12 self-contained flats with communal laundry facilities. Adullam staff are on site during office hours and include a family intervention worker. Residents are young women aged 16 to 19 and either late into pregnancy or with a child/children.

Bethany Court provides a safe and supportive environment for the young parents, enabling them to develop good parenting skills and to work towards a positive future, with aims such as obtaining their own accommodation and getting into higher education.

Commenting on the donation, Debbie said: "We at Fosse Park like to help as many charities as possible during this tough time and the Bethany Court is a great project helping young women get back on their feet, it is a pleasure to be able to help.”

The items were collected from the store by Adullam Homes Regional Manager Viv Michell. She said: “We are very grateful to Asda for thinking of us. The toys were soon out of their boxes and being used. These kinds of things, which many of us take for granted, really help have a positive impact on residents’ mental health and emotional well-being.”
