Green Flag flying at Adullam Denbighshire

Adullam’s Denbighshire project is very proud to have achieved the coveted Green Flag Community Award in recognition of the high environmental standards, cleanliness, safety, and community involvement that its garden can boast.

Operations and Property Services Manager Rebecca Atherton proudly raised the flag at the Denbigh site in Rhyl during the project’s third annual garden party. She was watched by more than 40 guests who included citizens supported by the project, representatives from partner organisations, and staff.

An application was submitted to Keep Wales Tidy who run Green Flag in Wales in January, and judges visited the garden during the spring.

The judges commented on the work done to create a beautiful space that as well as its obvious use for gardening also provides a meeting venue, a provider of vegetables for the project’s Ready, Steady, Cook sessions, a place to socialise and somewhere other organisations can bring their service users.

They said: “Nice to see so much going on in a small space, this was transformed from a concrete parking area that was neglected to a blooming garden, rich in interest and biodiversity.”

They also made positive comments about involving others, saying there are “Good links within the community and businesses. Space used for support sessions from outside agencies.”

In her speech Rebecca took the opportunity to encourage organisations to use the garden, as well as to thank those who have supported its development.

The garden provided the perfect setting for the annual outdoor get-together at which guests enjoyed food and raised almost £100 for the welfare fund on a fun tombola.
