A hike to help

Two High Peak organisations that provide support to the community are joining forces in an exhilarating 17-mile hike.

The Adullam/Hummingbird Sponsored Walk 2024 will go from Buxton to Glossop, using a largely  off-road route that takes in attractive locations including Hayfield, Chapel-en-le-Frith, and Whaley Bridge.

The event, on August 26, has been planned by Adullam Homes Housing Association in partnership with The Hummingbird Project.

Adullam is a housing association created in 1972 to support vulnerable individuals and households.

It is Ofsted registered and in the High Peak provides supported accommodation services for 16/17-year-old young people who are looked after, unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, and young people leaving care. Adullam helps them to move into education, training, employment and ultimately on to independent housing.

The Hummingbird Project is a community clothing bank, based in Glossop but serving the wider community of Derbyshire, High Peak and Tameside. The Project provides free baby equipment, children’s and adults’ clothing, footwear, outwear, school uniforms and more for the homeless or for those who are struggling.

A busy shop floor with rails of clothing, footwear and soft furnishings all visible.

Support for the sponsored walk event is being provided by Adullam Social Enterprises (ASE), a not-for-profit Community Interest Company Limited by guarantee.

Funds raised by the walk, which is expected to take around five and a half hours to complete,  will be shared between the Hummingbird Project and Adullam’s young people’s services welfare fund. This helps pay for transport, activities, educational opportunities, emergency food and clothing for homeless young people.

The organisers are looking for help and support. People are welcome to join the walk, which will be broken down into sections so those who want to do less than 17 miles will be able to do so. Groups and individuals in the area are asked to share news of the event, and donations of food and drink for along the way would be welcome donations, and as many sponsors as possible is the target.

Please support the walkers and the causes they are raising funds for by donating here.
